Compare the2025 Honda Civic SiVS 2025 Toyota GR Corolla

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Honda Civic Si have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Toyota GR Corolla doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Honda Civic Si has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GR Corolla doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Civic Si deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Civic Si’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The GR Corolla’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Both the Civic Si and the GR Corolla have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Honda Civic Si achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2025 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated moderate overlap front crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The GR Corolla has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Honda vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda above average in initial quality. With 11 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

On the EPA test cycle the Civic Si gets better mileage than the GR Corolla:

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Civic Si’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The GR Corolla doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Civic Si uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The GR Corolla requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Civic Si has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The GR Corolla doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Honda Civic Si higher (5 out of 10) than the Toyota GR Corolla (4). This means the Civic Si produces up to 5.2 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the GR Corolla every 15,000 miles.

The Civic Si stops much shorter than the GR Corolla:

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Civic Si’s wheelbase is 3.8 inches longer than on the GR Corolla (107.7 inches vs. 103.9 inches).

The Civic Si handles at .97 G’s, while the GR Corolla pulls only .94 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Honda Civic Si may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the Toyota GR Corolla.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Civic Si a Mid-size car, while the GR Corolla is rated a Compact.

The Civic Si has 12 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GR Corolla (96.6 vs. 84.6).

The Civic Si has .3 inches more front legroom, .4 inches more front hip room, 3.1 inches more front shoulder room, 7.5 inches more rear legroom, 3.4 inches more rear hip room and 1.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the GR Corolla.

The Civic Si’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The GR Corolla Morizo Edition doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Honda service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Honda 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 23% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

The Civic Si’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The GR Corolla has a lever-type parking brake that has to be strenuously raised to engage properly. It has to be lifted up more and a button depressed to release it.

The Civic Si’s speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The GR Corolla’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Civic Si has a standard center folding armrest for the driver and front passenger. A center armrest helps combat driver fatigue. The GR Corolla doesn’t offer a front seat center armrest.

Insurance will cost less for the Civic Si owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Civic Si will cost $725 to $5105 less than the GR Corolla over a five-year period.

The Civic Si will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Civic Si will retain 60.14% of its original price after five years, while the GR Corolla only retains 57.74% to 59.52%.

The Civic was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 10 more times in the last 41 years. The GR Corolla hasn’t been picked since 2023, and the GR Corolla has only been chosen once.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Civic as the 2025 North American Car of the Year. The GR Corolla has never been chosen.

The Honda Civic outsold the Toyota Corolla by 9276 units during 2024.
