The Honda Prologue has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Honda Prologue achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has not been tested.

Both the Prologue and the Ioniq 5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

There are over 27 percent more Honda dealers than there are Hyundai dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Prologue’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda fourth in overall reliability. Hyundai is ranked 10th.

For better traction, the Prologue has larger standard tires than the Ioniq 5 (255/60R19 vs. 235/55R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Prologue has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Ioniq 5 XRT.

The Honda Prologue’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Prologue can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 3.7 inches longer than on the Ioniq 5 (121.8 inches vs. 118.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Prologue is 1.4 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Ioniq 5.

For greater off-road capability the Prologue has a 2.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Ioniq 5 N (8.1 vs. 5.6 inches), allowing the Prologue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Prologue’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the Ioniq 5 XRT (8.1 vs. 7 inches).

The Prologue has 5.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Ioniq 5 (111.7 vs. 106.5).

The Prologue has 3.7 inches more front hip room, 1.7 inches more front shoulder room and .8 inches more rear hip room than the Ioniq 5.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Prologue. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Prologue’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Ioniq 5’s (1500 vs. 0 pounds).

The Prologue’s front and rear power windows all open fully with one touch of the switches and its front windows also automatically close, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 5’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the Prologue the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Ioniq 5 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Prologue’s standard Push Button Start and Smart Entry allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Prologue’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Ioniq 5’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 5 offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Honda Prologue has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Hyundai charges extra for Homelink® on the Ioniq 5.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Honda Prologue has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited/XRT/N offers wireless charging.
