For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Honda Prologue have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Hyundai Nexo doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Prologue are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Nexo doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Honda Prologue has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Nexo doesn’t offer knee airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Honda Prologue achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Hyundai Nexo has not been tested.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Prologue has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Nexo doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The Prologue has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Nexo doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the Prologue and the Nexo have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Honda Prologue weighs 815 to 1283 pounds more than the Hyundai Nexo. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are over 27 percent more Honda dealers than there are Hyundai dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Prologue’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda fourth in overall reliability. Hyundai is ranked 10th.

The Prologue’s standard electric motor produces 59 more horsepower (220 vs. 161) than the Nexo’s electric motor. The Prologue’s optional electric motors produces 139 more horsepower (300 vs. 161) and 64 lbs.-ft. more torque (355 vs. 291) than the Nexo’s electric motor.

On the EPA test cycle the Prologue gets better mileage than the Nexo:

For better traction, the Prologue has larger standard tires than the Nexo (255/60R19 vs. 225/60R17). The Prologue Elite’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Nexo (275/45R21 vs. 245/45R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Prologue has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Nexo. The Prologue Elite’s 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the Nexo Limited.

The Honda Prologue’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Hyundai Nexo only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Prologue has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Nexo doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Prologue can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Nexo doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 12 inches longer than on the Nexo (121.8 inches vs. 109.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Prologue is 2.5 inches wider in the front and 2.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Nexo.

For greater off-road capability the Prologue has a 1.7 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Nexo (8.1 vs. 6.4 inches), allowing the Prologue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Prologue has 10.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Nexo (111.7 vs. 101.3).

The Prologue has .2 inches more front headroom, 3.6 inches more front hip room, 2.2 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, .8 inches more rear legroom, .9 inches more rear hip room and 2.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Nexo.

The Prologue has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Nexo with its rear seat folded (57.7 vs. 56.5 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Prologue. The Nexo doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Prologue has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The Nexo has no towing capacity.

When two different drivers share the Prologue Touring/Elite, the memory seats make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The Nexo doesn’t offer memory seats.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Nexo doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Prologue Elite has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Nexo doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Prologue’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Nexo’s standard power windows’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

If the windows are left open on the Prologue the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Nexo can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Prologue’s standard Push Button Start and Smart Entry allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Nexo doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Prologue’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Nexo’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Prologue’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Nexo’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Nexo has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Honda Prologue outsold the Hyundai Nexo by over 196 to one during 2024.
