The Honda Prologue has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Niro EV doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Honda Prologue achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Kia Niro EV has not been tested.

The Prologue has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Niro EV doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Prologue Elite has a standard Surround Vision System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Niro EV only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Prologue and the Niro EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Honda Prologue weighs 1211 to 1552 pounds more than the Kia Niro EV. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Prologue’s 5 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Niro EV runs out after 100,000 miles.

There are over 35 percent more Honda dealers than there are Kia dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Prologue’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda fourth in overall reliability. Kia is ranked 9th.

The Prologue’s standard electric motor produces 19 more horsepower (220 vs. 201) and 55 lbs.-ft. more torque (243 vs. 188) than the Niro EV’s electric motor. The Prologue’s optional electric motors produces 99 more horsepower (300 vs. 201) and 167 lbs.-ft. more torque (355 vs. 188) than the Niro EV’s electric motor.

For better traction, the Prologue has larger standard tires than the Niro EV (255/60R19 vs. 215/55R17). The Prologue Elite’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Niro EV (275/45R21 vs. 215/55R17).

The Prologue Elite’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Niro EV’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Prologue has standard 19-inch wheels. Only 17-inch wheels are available on the Niro EV. The Prologue Elite has standard 21-inch wheels.

The Honda Prologue’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Kia Niro EV only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Prologue has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Niro EV doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Prologue can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Niro EV doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 14.7 inches longer than on the Niro EV (121.8 inches vs. 107.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Prologue is 4.2 inches wider in the front and 4.1 inches wider in the rear than on the Niro EV.

For greater off-road capability the Prologue has a 2.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Niro EV (8.1 vs. 5.9 inches), allowing the Prologue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Prologue has 12 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Niro EV (111.7 vs. 99.7).

The Prologue has 4.3 inches more front hip room, 3.1 inches more front shoulder room, 2.5 inches more rear legroom, 1.7 inches more rear hip room and 2.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Niro EV.

The Prologue has a much larger cargo volume than the Niro EV with its rear seat up (25.2 vs. 22.8 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Prologue. The Niro EV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Prologue has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The Niro EV has no towing capacity.

The Prologue’s front and rear power windows all open fully with one touch of the switches and its front windows also automatically close, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Niro EV’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. The Niro EV Wave’s rear windows don’t open automatically.

If the windows are left open on the Prologue the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Niro EV can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Prologue’s standard Push Button Start and Smart Entry allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key standard on the Niro EV doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Prologue’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Niro EV’s standard projector halogen headlights and light instantly. LED lights also last over twenty times longer than halogen.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Niro EV offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Prologue has a standard Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Niro EV doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The Honda Prologue has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Kia charges extra for Homelink® on the Niro EV.
