In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Honda Prologue achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Toyota bZ4X has not been tested.

Both the Prologue and the bZ4X have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Honda Prologue weighs 468 to 1007 pounds more than the Toyota bZ4X. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better traction, the Prologue has larger standard tires than the bZ4X (255/60R19 vs. 235/60R18). The Prologue Elite’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the bZ4X (275/45R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The Prologue Elite’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the bZ4X Limited/Nightshade’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Prologue has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the bZ4X XLE. The Prologue Elite’s 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the bZ4X Limited/Nightshade.

The Honda Prologue’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota bZ4X only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Prologue has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The bZ4X doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Prologue can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The bZ4X doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 9.6 inches longer than on the bZ4X (121.8 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Prologue is 3.1 inches wider in the front and 2.9 inches wider in the rear than on the bZ4X.

When two different drivers share the Prologue Touring/Elite, the memory seats make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The bZ4X doesn’t offer memory seats.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The bZ4X doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Prologue Elite has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Prologue’s standard Push Button Start and Smart Entry allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the bZ4X doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Prologue’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The bZ4X’s power window (except driver window) and power lock switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Prologue has a standard rear wiper. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Prologue Touring/Elite’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The bZ4X has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Honda Prologue and Toyota bZ4X offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Prologue offers available power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the bZ4X’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The Honda Prologue has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Toyota charges extra for Homelink® on the bZ4X.

The Prologue Elite has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
